Dove Men+Care Elements – Minerals, Charcoal & Clay Body Powders?

on

Personal hygiene product manufacturer Dove recently unveiled a lineup of products called Dove Men+Care Elements. Find out how these products work today in our review.

What is Dove Men+Care Elements?

Dove has been selling its Men+Care products since 2010. This February, Dove added a new version of that lineup called Elements. That lineup promises to provide additional nourishing ingredients that aren’t found in conventional Dove Men+Care products.

The Elements lineup includes soap bars, body washes, deodorants, antiperspirants, and more.

What’s the difference between the ordinary Men+Care products and Elements products? You’ll find products and ingredient you wouldn’t normally see, like the Men+Care Elements Charcoal + Clay Body Wash.

Dove announced the Men+Care Elements lineup in a press release on February 13, 2017. The manufacturer, Unilever, described Dove Men+Care products as “the #1 fastest growing men’s grooming brand in the U.S.”.

What Makes Dove Men+Care Elements Products Different?

Dove explains that their new “Elements” lineup includes products that are inspired by nature. The products feature natural, trendy ingredients like all of the following:

  • Minerals and Mineral Powder
  • Sage
  • Charcoal
  • Clay
  • Sandalwood

Together, explains Dove, these ingredients “create a transformative feeling of freshness for men’s grooming routines”.

Essentially, these are just the ordinary Dove Men+Care Elements products mixed in with additional natural ingredients. So instead of filling the products with synthetic cleansers, Dove is using natural ingredients, botanicals, and more.

However, the ingredients do more than just make you feel better about the environment. Dove explains that the use of natural ingredients will “trigger men’s senses” while the “formulations [will] provide the superior care for their skin and hair consumers expect from Dove Men+Care”.

Dove Men+Care Elements Products

There are three core ingredient combinations offered as part of the Dove Men+Care Elements lineup, including:

  • Minerals & Sage: Minerals and sage have been used for centuries to refresh the body and mind. They’re also known to gently cleanse and soothe the skin and hair, according to the official Unilever press release announcing the Elements lineup.
  • Charcoal & Clay: These two ingredients can be found in a wide variety of cleansers and masks, where they’re known for their ability to deep clean and purify men’s skin and hair.
  • Mineral Powder & Sandalwood: The combination of mineral powder with sandalwood purportedly helps to absorb moisture and calm the skin.

With those formulas in mind, here’s an overview of the products currently available through the Elements lineup:

  • Men+Care Elements Minerals + Sage Bar
  • Men+Care Elements Minerals + Sage Body Wash
  • Men+Care Elements Charcoal + Clay Body Wash
  • Men+Care Elements Mineral Powder + Sandalwood Dry Spray Antiperspirant Deodorant
  • Men+Care Elements Minerals + Sage Dry Spray Antiperspirant Deodorant
  • Men+Care Elements Mineral Powder + Sandalwood Antiperspirant Stick
  • Men+Care Elements Mineral Powder & Sandalwood Deodorant Stick
  • Men+Care Elements Minerals + Sage Antiperspirant Deodorant Stick
  • Men+Care Elements Minerals + Sage Deodorant Stick
  • Men+Care Elements Minerals + Sage Fortifying Shampoo and Conditioner
  • Men+Care Elements Charcoal Fortifying Shampoo

In all of these products, you can expect to find additional ingredients beyond the ones listed on the packaging. The Elements Minerals + Sage soap bar, for example, contains additional scents like peppermint and eucalyptus. The full list of ingredients also includes traditional cleansers like sodium lauroyl isethionate, stearic acid, sodium tallowate, and lauric acid – so if you’re looking for an all-natural cleanser free of artificial dyes and synthetic formulas, then the Elements lineup isn’t it.

Men+Care Elements Ingredients

Here’s the full list of ingredients on the Elements soap bar. Expect similar ingredients in the body wash and other cleansing formulas:

  • Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Sodium Tallowate or Sodium Palmitate, Sodium Stearate, Water (Aqua), Lauric Acid, Sodium Isethionate, Sodium Cocoate or Sodium Palm Kernelate, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Fragrance (Parfum), Dipropylene Glycol, Sodium Chloride, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Chloride, Propylene Glycol, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Zinc PCA, Glycerin, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Green 5 (CI 61570), Yellow 6 (CI 15985), Yellow 5 (CI 19140)

As mentioned above, the Dove Elements lineup isn’t an all-natural cleanser, and it doesn’t advertise itself as containing only natural ingredients and formulas. It contains many of the same synthetic ingredients you find in traditional cleansers, just with additional botanicals and extracts added in.

You also see synthetic colors on the ingredients list. As you can see, key ingredients like sage are near the end of the ingredients list, listed just before the dyes – so it doesn’t appear there’s that much sage in the soap bar, at least compared to other ingredients.

Dove Men+Care Elements Pricing

Expect the Men+Care Elements lineup to be priced slightly higher than traditional Dove Men+Care formulas. The soap bar, for example, is listed on Amazon at a price of $9.39 for 6 bars, while the traditional Dove Men+Care 10 bar package is priced at around $5.

You can find Dove Elements products online and in stores.

Who Makes Dove Men+Care Elements?

Dove Men+Care is created under the Dove brand, which is owned by Unilever. In 2010, Dove launched its Dove Men+Care lineup, which was the first product lineup marketed specifically towards men.

Today, the company claims that its Men+Care lineup is the #1 dermatologist recommended men’s skincare brand. You can find soap bars, body washes, face care products, antiperspirants, and other formulas sold under the Elements lineup.

Unilever is one of the biggest companies in the world, and claims to reach more than 2 billion consumers every day with products available for sale in 190 countries worldwide. Some of the best members of the Unilever family include Axe, Ben & Jerry’s, Degree, Dollar Shave Club, Dove, Lipton, Magnum, Popsicle, Q-tips, St. Ives, TRESemme, and Vaseline.

Should You Buy Dove Men+Care Elements Products?

Dove Men+Care Elements products are similar to the original Men+Care products, which launched in 2010 and have quickly become a top-rated brand in the world of men’s hygiene.

With the Dove Men+Care Elements products, the company wants to build off the success of the Men+Care brand by adding additional ingredients – like sandalwood, sage, and charcoal – that enhance the effectiveness of the products even further.

The Elements lineup is priced slightly higher than the original Men+Care lineup. They contain mostly the same ingredients – including the same synthetic cleansers and formulas – so don’t expect them to be all-natural or organic products.

If you like the original Men+Care products from Dove, and want to enjoy new scents and ingredients then the Elements lineup is available to purchase online and in-stores today.
