Zen Life Supplements Zen Night Review

Zen Life Supplements Zen Night is a nutritional supplement that you take 30 minutes before bed to relieve symptoms of insomnia. Does it actually work? Here’s our review.

What is Zen Life Supplements Zen Night?

Zen Night is a nutritional supplement made by a company named Zen Life Supplements.

That supplement promises to help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer while waking up feeling more rested in the morning.

Each gelatin capsule contains 10 ingredients. The ingredients promise to be different than conventional sleeping pills: you’re not left with a sleeping pill hangover and you don’t have to fill your body with dangerous chemicals. They include ingredients like GABA, L-Tryptophan, and melatonin, all of which are backed by plenty of scientific research.

The product was created by Zen Life Supplements co-founder Patrick Stiles, who claims to have suffered from insomnia since he was a teenager. He began researching natural sleep aids on his own before teaming up with “a 35-year veteran Ph.D. in the supplement industry” to perfect the formula even further.

With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at how Zen Night claims to work.

How Does Zen Night Work?

You take Zen Night 30 minutes before you want to fall asleep. The gelatin capsule dissolves in your stomach in three minutes, and then the 10 ingredients inside each capsule start to immediately go to work. It’s that simple.

The ingredients are described as “Ph.D formulated with clinically studied ingredients from countless scientific trials.” These natural ingredients release body tension and calm your racing mind so you “wake up refreshed, energized and ready to tackle the day.”

What exactly are those ingredients? They’re a blend of herbal extracts, amino acids, and other compounds. All ingredients are clearly listed on the product’s packaging. The manufacturer doesn’t hide this information behind proprietary formulas. Instead, they list the upfront dosages of all ingredients – which is a refreshing change from many supplements sold online today.

Key ingredients include all of the following: Vitamin B6, Valerian Extract, GABA, Passion Flower Extract, L-Tryptophan, Chamomile Extract, Lemon Balm Extract, Hops Flower Powder, 5-HTP, and Melatonin.

You may recognize a few of these ingredients. Tryptophan is the same ingredient found in turkey that makes you drowsy, for example, while melatonin is found in many natural sleep aids, where the average dosage is between 2mg and 5mg.

Other ingredients like chamomile can be found in herbal teas taken before bed. Meanwhile, the herbal extracts are described as having “mild sedative effects which help you fall asleep by soothing your body and releasing nervous tension.”

Zen Night Ingredients

Here’s the complete list of ingredients and dosages contained in one capsule (1 serving, 30 servings per capsule) of Zen Night:

  • 15mg Vitamin B6
  • 200mg Valerian Extract
  • 150mg GABA
  • 100mg Passion Flower Extract
  • 100mg L-Tryptophan
  • 50mg Chamomile 10:1 Extract
  • 50mg Lemon Balm 10:1 Extract
  • 50mg Hops Flower Powder
  • 30mg 5-HTP
  • 2mg Melatonin

The dose of melatonin is right around what we like to see for a sleep aid. However, the dose of other ingredients is surprisingly low.

Tryptophan, for example, is typically taken at a minimum dose of 250mg of 500mg per day, with most average doses lying between 1,000 and 1,500mg. Some people even take 15 grams of Tryptophan before bedtime. No matter which number you pick, the 100mg dose of Tryptophan in Zen Night looks really small.

GABA is also relatively low dosed in this supplement. The average GABA dose for sleep is 500 to 1,000mg taken approximately 1 hour before bed. Some people also take 3 daily doses of 750mg of GABA to reduce stress. Once again, no matter which number you pick, it makes the 150mg of GABA in Zen Night look small.

Of the remaining ingredients, valerian extract is the one backed by the most scientific evidence. Valerian extract is traditionally taken as a natural sleep aid. WebMD.com reports that most insomnia studies use a dose between 400mg and 900mg of valerian to encourage a restful night’s sleep. There’s 200mg of valerian in Zen Night.

Zen Night doesn’t exactly hide its low dosage information. In fact, it cites many studies as evidence that its ingredients work. You can find this information at the Clinical Research page. It glazes over the fact, however, that the cited studies used significantly higher dosages than what’s found in Zen Night.

Ultimately, the ingredients in Zen Night seem to be good ingredients backed by real scientific evidence – but they’re not found at anywhere close to the recommended minimum dosages.

About Zen Life Supplements

Zen Life Supplements is a nutritional supplement company based in Denver, Colorado that primarily does business online. The Zen Night supplement was specifically launched by Patrick Stiles, co-founder of the company and self-described “lifelong insomniac”. He claims he’s had trouble sleeping ever since he was a teenager.

After taking harsh over the counter sleeping pills, Patrick realized there must be a better, more natural solution.

The company was founded by Patrick Stiles and Elizabeth Thomson in Denver, Colorado in 2010. According to the company’s About page [ZenNight.com/about/], they’ve sold “tens of thousands of bottles” of their products around the world.

Zen Life Supplements was founded with the goal of offering natural solutions for health problems. They saw plenty of health supplements on the market that were packed with chemicals and artificial ingredients. They decided they could do better.

The company emphasizes research-backed ingredients and transparent dosage information – both of which we see in the Zen Night supplement.

Should You Take Zen Night to Promote a Restful Sleep?

Zen Night contains a blend of ingredients proven to help you get a full night’s sleep. Those ingredients include GABA, Tryptophan, melatonin, and valerian – all of which have been backed by numerous scientific studies.

The problem with Zen Night is that none of those ingredients are found in a particularly high dosage, except for melatonin. So this is essentially a melatonin sleep aid with small amounts of other ingredients added in.

We do like how Zen Night is open and transparent about its ingredients. We also like how the company lists all its dosage information instead of hiding it behind a proprietary formula.

If you’re looking for a moderate improvement on your natural sleep patterns, then Zen Night should get the job done. But if you’re looking for a heavy-duty sleep aid that knocks you out instantly, then Zen Night may not be what you’re looking for.
