Nutrisystem Turbo 10 – Overpriced Weight Loss Meal Replacements

on

It seems like everyone is in a hurry to lose weight these days. There are countless diet programs on the market today.

What is Nutrisystem Turbo 10?

Nutrisystem Turbo 10 is a diet system priced starting at $12 per day. By following the diet system, you can lose up to 10 pounds and 5 inches overall in your first month.

The diet emphasizes things like an easy-to-follow 4 week plan, meals delivered directly to your address and a variety of food options and snacks throughout the day.

On the cheapest plan, Nutrisystem Turbo 10 chooses your meals for you based on some of its handpicked favorites. On the more expensive plans, you get to choose your own meals (from a menu of 150 dishes).

Plans range in price from $400 to $600 for 4 weeks.

Nutrisystem is one of the oldest diet brands in the world today and has been helping people lose weight for over 40 years. The company launched its Turbo 10 plans in January 2016, which include new products like Turboshakes.

How does Nutrisystem Turbo 10 help you lose weight? Let’s take a closer look at this diet system.

How Does Nutrisystem Turbo 10 Work?

Nutrisystem Turbo 10 provides frozen meals and 150 different options to choose from. The program promises to help you lose weight with no fads or gimmicks: just the same proven strategies that Nutrisystem has used to help millions of people over the years.

Basically, with Nutrisystem Turbo 10, you get three plans from which to choose, including the Basic, Core, and Uniquely Yours plans. The Uniquely Yours plan is the most expensive, priced at around $12 a day.

All plans work in pretty much the same way: you get meals delivered to your house by FedEx on a regular basis. The only difference is that on the Basic plan, you can’t choose your own meals, while you can on the higher two plans.

In addition to having Nutrisystem meals delivered to your house, you’ll need to shop for certain extra groceries, including fresh fruits and vegetables.

The best way to get an idea of how Nutrisystem Turbo 10 works is to look at a sample day:

  • 7am Breakfast: Nutrisystem Homestyle Pancakes and a cup of coffee
  • 10am Snack: Nutrisystem Sweet Strawberry Shake
  • 1230pm Lunch: Nutrisystem Hamburger with Garden Salad
  • 330pm Snack: Low-Fat Yogurt with fresh blueberries
  • 630pm Dinner: Nutrisystem Spinach Stuffed Shells and salad
  • 9pm Snack: Nutrisystem Red Velvet Whoopie Pie

There are 150 meals from which to choose. Since launching Turbo 10 in January 2016, Nutrisystem claims that its customers have lost 3 times more weight, 3 times more total body inches, and 3 times more body fat in the first month than those who followed a DIY weight loss plan.

Another important thing about the 150 foods available is that 50% of them are reformulated to be better than the originals, which means they contain no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners (I guess the other 50% contain all of those things?).

The company also claims that its new menu options feature an increased number of whole grains, with the aim to have at least 50% of grains coming from whole grain sources. Once again, that means 50% of the grains in Nutrisystem come from processed sources.

Nutrisystem doesn’t claim that its diet aligns with any nutritional recommendations or government food guides. Instead, it simply says that it “provides customers the flexibility to align their diet with the US Healthy Eating Meal Pattern, as recommended by the USDA Dietary Guidelines.”

The meals are delivered in two different varieties: grab and go and fresh-frozen.

To help you keep track of everything Nutrisystem actually developed an app called the NuMi app. That app promises to be an easy-to-use, practical solution to help support you on your weight loss journey. It syncs with FitBit, Apple Health, and other health platforms and is available for Android and iOS devices.

  • Choose your own meals

It’s important to note that the first “4 week prices” listed above assume you’re signing up for the auto-delivery program, which cuts 35% off your order and ships new foods to your door every 4 weeks. You can pause, update, or cancel your subscription at any time. Nutrisystem makes you open a second menu before you see the “real” price for the one-time payment and month-to-month deliveries.

What’s the difference between the men and women’s programs? With the men’s’ program, you get 5 meals a day, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks, while women get 4 meals a day, including just one snack.

When you first sign up for Nutrisystem Turbo 10, you will get the “Turbo Takeoff” package for your first week, which gives you breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two shakes each day for the first week of the program. After that, you’ll be back down to 4 or 5 meals a day.

The shakes, by the way, are not included in the standard Turbo 10 program. They’re called Turboshakes and the manufacturer advertises them as a way to support digestive health and reduce belly bloat using protein mixed with probiotics.

If you have special dietary needs, then Turbo 10 also offers a Vegetarian plan, a Basic Diabetes plan, a Core Diabetes plan, and a Uniquely Yours diabetes plan.

Should You Use Nutrisystem Turbo 10 to Lose Weight?

Nutrisystem frequently cites one study where participants lost an average of 8.3 pounds and 4.2 inches (in total) from their hips, waist, chest, thighs, and arms in the first month. Nutrisystem doesn’t go into huge detail about how that study worked. That’s important, because losing 8.3 pounds isn’t a big deal for obese people following a calorie-restricted diet, but it is a big deal for people of a healthy weight.

The other main problem with Nutrisystem is that the company deliberately confuses you with its pricing policies: the prices it advertises upfront assume you’re signing up for the autoship program, in which case you get 35% off your order (and are forced to sign up for an autoship subscription). The month-to-month single shipment price is significantly higher.

There’s also the fact that you don’t get Turboshakes with your Turbo 10 plans: you only get them for the first week on your first order. After that, you’ll need to pay extra to add them onto your plan.

Nevertheless, Nutrisystem Turbo 10 isn’t super expensive considering you get 4 weeks’ worth of meals delivered directly to your door. Priced at $576.91 for the Uniquely Yours plan, it’s not for those on a tight budget, but it’s within reach for many people seeking to lose weight.

Keep in mind that Nutrisystem is backed by 40 years of diet research and experience. This isn’t some flash-in-the-pan online diet scam company. Nevertheless, your mileage may vary, and we would have liked to have seen more evidence from Nutrisystem that Turbo 10 works as advertised. Some users have had great success by combing Nutrisystem with supplements like Forskolin to attack their weight problems from two angels.
