Fitbit Alta Review – Worth Buying?

The Fitbit Alta is a new wearable fitness tracker created by one of the industry’s best known companies: Fitbit. It’s sleek, stylish, and priced at a competitive $130. Here’s our review.

What is the Fitbit Alta?

The Fitbit Alta is a recently-released wearable fitness tracker targeted towards a mid-range audience. If you don’t want the totally basic Fitbit Zip ($60) and can’t afford to spend $250 on the Surge, then the Fitbit Alta is a great middle-ground solution.

The Alta is sleek, stylish, and priced at $130. It’s one of two new products released by Fitbit this spring (the Blaze is the other one, and it’s more expensive than the Alta).

The Fitbit Alta is more affordable than some of the company’s other options, but it comes packed with the straightforward features you expect from a fitness tracker, including accurate activity and sleep tracking along with positive reinforcement designed to help push you towards your fitness goals.

Many people also appreciate the Alta for its sleek design. Some fitness trackers and smart watches are immediately noticeable on your wrist. The Alta, on the other hand, is minimalistic. It doesn’t tell everyone around you that you have a fitness tracker on your wrist.

Fitbit Alta Features

Here are some of the key features you’ll enjoy on the Fitbit Alta:

— Accurate activity tracking

— Automatic sleep tracking

— Call notifications from your phone

— OLED display showing your daily progress

— Lasts 5 days on a single charge

— SmartTrack technology built-in (so you don’t have to open the app or press a button to begin a workout, the Alta will automatically detect your activity with no input required)

— Ability to track walking, running, outdoor biking, elliptical training, and two general exercise categories (sport and aerobic workouts, which is recommended for cardio-intensive activities like dancing)

— Data synced to Fitbit app seamlessly

When you’re paying $130 for a fitness tracker, you’re inevitably going to miss out on some of the features found on the higher-priced models. With that in mind, the Alta doesn’t have a built-in heart rate sensor.

The most noticeable difference between the Fitbit Alta and other fitness trackers is the slim and sleek design. It’s noticeably slimmer than large Fitbits like the Charge or even the newer Blaze. From the small OLED display, you can view and control everything the Fitbit Alta has to offer. It’s a touchscreen that lets you tap your way through stats like time, step count, stairs climbed, and calories burned.

Fitbit Alta Pricing

The Alta is priced at $130 with its default elastomer sport band (which is required for tracking workouts)

However, you can purchase additional accessories like the leather band (available in camel, pink, or soft grey) for $60 or the $100 metal band. Fitbit encourages you to buy these bands if you want to wear the Alta at work.

Is the Fitbit Alta your Next Fitness Tracker?

The Alta is a slim, sleek, and multifunctional fitness tracker that isn’t glaringly obvious on your wrist. You get the ability to track activities and sleep accurately and at a more reasonable price than other Fitbit models. Priced at $130, the Alta forces you to give up a heart rate sensor. Aside from this missing component, however, the Alta comes with pretty much everything you need to track your day and keep you motivated.

One of the few knocks against the Alta is that its touchscreen can be slow to respond to input. If you want to rapidly tap through multiple screens in seconds, then the Alta may be frustrating to use.

If you want a modern, sleek-looking fitness tracker that doesn’t break the bank, then the Fitbit Alta may be the perfect option for you.
