Better Breads Review – Should You Buy?

What is Better Breads?

Better Breads is a recipe book written by Kelley Herring. Due to her non-celiac gluten allergy, Herring has had to get creative with her cooking techniques. When she released her cookbook Guilt-Free Desserts, she received inquiries about when she would create a cookbook focusing on gluten-free breads.

Considering the requests a challenge, Herring went to work in her kitchen designing the recipes that would make up her next book, Better Breads: 25 Quick and Delicious, Gluten-Free, Paleo, and Low-Carb Breads. As insinuated by its title, the recipes found in Better Breads meet a certain number of criteria.

All the recipes are for breads that are:

-Inexpensive to make
-Made with real foods
-Gluten-free
-Grain-free
-Low-glycemic

And, most importantly, Herring wanted them to taste good. Because gluten is such a vital part of why bread is so delicious, this was probably the hardest aspect that Herring had to face. However, her results are now the delicious breads found in this Better Breads cookbook.

Benefits of Better Breads

Purchasing gluten-free breads can get very expensive, very fast. The average price for gluten-free breads is in the mid-$6 range, which is almost 242% more expensive than its gluten filled counterparts. This makes purchasing and eating bread more of a treat, which is hard for those who are used to having it as a daily part of their diet.

In addition to being so expensive, these breads are generally low in protein and fiber. Store bought gluten-free breads will also usually contain vegetable oil or some form of soy product. For those with strict dietary needs, these factors can keep them from purchasing these breads.

Not only are the recipes found in Better Breads contain no vegetable oil or soy products, they’re also high in protein and fiber, giving that extra health boost for those who need it. And, the breads are also lower in carbs than store bought gluten-free breads.

On average, when compared to the leading gluten-free brands, Better Breads has:

-70% Fewer Carbohydrates
-55% Less Sugar
-167% More Protein
-167% More Fiber

Aside from the many health benefits of Better Breads, there’s also the benefit of the simplicity of the recipes. Herring worked for months to create recipes that would, on average, take less than 15 minutes to mix together and prepare. And unlike so many bread recipes, these ones don’t take any special equipment, like a bread maker, or kneading. Most of the recipes, except for the ones that need to be shaped, are simple mix and pour.

Better Bread Recipes

Instead of having customers guess about the recipes inside Better Breads, Herring has given out the information. This prevents any confusion or guesswork on behalf of those who are interested in purchasing the recipe book.

In Better Breads, users will find the following recipes:

  1. I, too, would much prefer a paper book cookbook format, all though I
would settle for an e-book. Is the PDR format compatible with the
    iPad2 ???

  2. Yes, I’m tired of all these downloads. They are of no advantage to me. I like having the cookbook in front of me in the kitchen, especially since I have a desktop computer and I would have to print each recipe out to use effectively. I don’t mind waiting to get it in the mail. I still LOVE BOOKS!

  3. I would like to purchase a cookbook not an email version. Please let me know by email as soon as possible. Thank You Margy Renner

  4. I would like to have a cook bookbook in print or when is it comingout in print. I don’t like digital because my data is limited. Please let me know.
