Aspire FG Review – Should You Try It?

Aspire FG is a company that produces cricket-based products, snacks, and recipes for an environmentally friendly source of protein, which is also sustainable over time. This is our review.

What is Aspire FG?

Consumers and foodies everywhere are always looking for a new and innovative recipe to add to their repertoire of interesting tastes. However, in rural and urban areas, the search for a new food is about survival and longevity. To preserve the cultures in different parts of the world, it’s absolutely critical that the human race finds a way to supply the necessary protein to those cultures. The students behind Aspire decided to achieve that goal.

Aspire FG began as a group of five MBA students who entered the Hult Prize competition a few years ago, which is a competition that is hosted by former President Bill Clinton. The group learned about food security and came up with the idea to use insect farming to help with nutrition in urban slums. They learned about insect rearing in different cultures to find a marketable solution to limited food sources in populations that are starving.

The competition is the largest crowd-sourcing completion in the world, and the theme changes every year. The final presentation that the students gave included three different steps in their model:

  1. Production of the locally desired insects.
  2. Training the local urban and rural farmers to produce the insects.
  3. Distribution of the insect and the insect-based products.

At this time, the company established itself in food markets in Mexico, Ghana, and the United States. They have a long-term mission to help educate others about this valuable protein, and how farms can contribute to the consumption of these insects.

Why Choose Crickets?

Crickets are incredibly high in protein, which means you are able to get the amount of protein that you usually get from beef. In fact, the protein level is actually much higher, containing 20g of protein in every 30 grams of roasted crickets versus 8g of protein for every 30 grams of beef.

Calcium and iron levels are also higher than beef, which makes this treat a great way to get the nutrition that you need, even if you don’t regularly eat meat.

Aspire FG Products

All of the Aspire products are made with crickets in some way. However, rather than just offering the “ready to eat” version, the company also produced flour and recipe-ready crickets so you can make your own delicious treats.

Aketta Cricket Flour

This flour is completely pure and GMO-free, giving you a flour that is easy to incorporate into any recipe, rather than the processed and bleached white flour. This flour gives a little extra taste to your recipes, giving an aroma that is reminiscent of cocoa, sunflower seeds and roasted nuts. The website features multiple recipes you can use it in, but you can also research online to find the best options. This flour has the highest protein content of any cricket powder, which is 67% protein.

You can order the flour in multiple sizes. Here are the prices for each size:

  • ¼ lb – $15
  • ½ lb – $28
  • 1lb – $44

Aketta Whole, Recipe-Ready Crickets

The recipe-ready crickets can be purchased for wholesale, restaurant and food service companies only, and is not available for personal purchase yet. If you want to order this product, you have to submit a request via email at [email protected].

These crickets need to be stored in the freezer in a sealed container until you’re ready to put it in your recipe. When you are ready to use them, thaw them out in room temperature water. If you freeze them, they need to be used within three weeks. If you have them thawed out, you need to use them within four days for the maximum freshness.

For orders up to 25lbs, you will be paying a rate of $38 per pound. If you would like to order a larger shipment, include your request in the email.

Crispy Aketta Whole Crickets

The Crispy Aketta Whole Crickets are ready to eat as soon as you open your package. The crickets have been raised on an organic diet, which helped to add nutritional value to them. They have been cooked with dry heat to create a crispy and delicious texture, making them smell like sunflower seeds or roasted nuts.

You can make your purchase with several different sizes. Here are the options for purchase:

  • ¼ lb – $15
  • ½ lb – $28
  • 1lb – $44

Conclusion

The main purpose of creating these cricket-based recipes are to find protein sources for cultures that are constantly struggling to find a solution for food. However, by making purchases from this company, you are able to fund the efforts of the founding students. This funding can be put towards the goals that they have for hungry families in Ghana, Mexico, and the United States.
